Electro-optical spin-valley excitations in 2D monolayers are promising candidates for new generation information carriers. Control over these has been achieved through optical means, with limited spatial resolution furnishing incomplete understanding of the role of defects, interfaces and spatial confinement (for example). SpinE will develop new time-resolved (ps to ns range) spectroscopy techniques allying the spectral resolution of lasers and the spatial resolution of electrons in a transmission electron microscope to study and control these excitations with meV spectral resolution and either 0.1 nm spatial or 0.002 nm-1 momentum-transfer resolution. Such capabilities will pave the way to a deep understanding of the spin-valley excitations physical properties and dynamics.
