Simple coarse-grained models inspired by soft matter can be used in biophysics. As a matter of fact, biological properties that emerge as results of the interactions between small building blocks can be described with tools of statistical mechanics. The advantage is that, for these simplified models, a numerical and/or theoretical treatment can be feasible.
