Laura Bocher is a research scientist at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) affiliated at the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (LPS, Orsay, FR). Her main experimental research activities include functional nanostructured oxides mainly probed by advanced electron spectromicroscopy techniques.

She has received her Ph.D. in 2009 from the Universität Augsburg (DE) for a thesis focused on “Nanostructured Thermoelectric Manganates Oxides” at Empa laboratory (Zürich, CH). She continued with a first postdoctoral project on “Atomic and Electronic Structures of Oxide Heterostructures for Spintronics” in the STEM group at LPS in close collaboration with the Unité Mixte de Physique CNRS-Thalès (UMΦ, Palaiseau, FR). Afterwards, she spent one year at INSA Lyon (FR), in the SNMS group, working on the Structural and Optical Properties of Luminescent Oxides. She then got her CNRS researcher position in 2012 in the STEM group at LPS, Orsay.

She currently develops her activities on heterostructures, anisotropic crystals and nanostructured materials for energy technologies (thermoelectrics, phosphorents) and/or on systems presenting remarkable physical properties (multiferroic and magnetoelectric for spintronics). Her experimental approach aims at correlating more precisely the relationship between (i) the physical properties at the macroscopic scale and (ii) the local structural, chemical, optical, and electronic properties of these nanostructured systems down to the atomic scale mainly by advanced STEM-EELS and STEM-CL. She also combined these studies with X-ray spectroscopy techniques in synchrotron in particular on magnetic systems with X-ray absorption (XAS) and circular magnetic dichroism (XMCD) measurements.
